AOL / Comcast E-mail Problems

Recently, several of our clients have called us with questions regarding an e-mail problem they were experiencing with AOL and/or Comcast. The problem is one (or both) of the following:

1. Our customers who has email service on our servers forwards their e-mail to their AOL or Comcast address (example - John at John's Company wants e-mail sent to john@Johnscompany.com to be forwarded to Johnscompany@aol.com) and the client does not receive it. These e-mails bounce back to the sender as undeliverable because of “spam content”.

2. E-mail our clients are sending to AOL or Comcast e-mail addresses were blocked and returned as undeliverable because of spam content.

This is a known issue that occurs on AOL and Comcast’s system and not with G4’s e-mail services.

To find more information about why this issue is occurring, I encourage you to perform a Google search for “aol e-mail forwarding problem”. I found several articles from different companies explaining, in detail, why this issue is occurring.

To cut spam received by users, AOL and Comcast both block entire mail servers due to some emails forwarded has spam content even though the email did not originate on our servers. By doing so, these companies are preventing legitimate e-mails from getting delivered. While these blocks do prevent spam from getting through, they also prevent legitimate business-related e-mails (reservation requests, questions from potential customers, etc) from being delivered as well.

In an attempt to keep G4’s e-mail server off of Comcast and AOL’s blacklists, we will not be setting up e-mail accounts to forward to these e-mail providers. This in no way will interrupt your e-mail accounts through G4. If you are experiencing problems receiving e-mail forwarded from G4 to an AOL or Comcast e-mail address, please call us and we can set you up to check your G4 e-mail accounts directly from our server.
