How do I configure the DHCP clients?
Each client is configured independently. Most operating systems have a default to receive their IP configuration from a DHCP server. When checking the IP configuration, look for an option that resembles ïObtain IP address automatically'. In Windows, this is under Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network Settings, Select TCPIP, then properties.

My PCs are getting the wrong information - the IP address and default gateway are incorrect. Why is this?
If the information looks incorrect, check some of the other workstations. The DHCP server in the router can detect other DHCP servers on the network. The DHCP server will disable itself if it detects another DHCP server on the network.

How do I exclude my local servers from DHCP?
To exclude your servers so that they do not change addresses, you must assign them addresses first. Then make sure that these addresses are not added to the scope on the DHCP server. This will prevent them from being sent out to other devices on the network.

My Windows 98/NT clients get the message ïDHCP Server Unavailable: renewing adapter'. How do I fix this?
There is a known problem with Windows 98/NT and client attempts to renew the use of an IP address. Open a DOS window and type ipconfig /renew. This should force the client to renew the address or obtain a new one. If this does not work, open a DOS window and type ipconfig/release, then reboot the PC.

My Windows 95 clients constantly get a message indicating that there is an IP address conflict on the boot up. How do I stop this?
This is a known problem in Microsoft's implementation of its Winsock. The client tries to reuse its old address after being rebooted. This problem reportedly was resolved in Microsoft's Winsock version 2. If this upgrade does not resolve the problem, check Microsoft's web site at www.microsoft.com.
