Basic Routing

Linking LANS

Everyone on your LAN can have transparent access to the Internet, wide area network or even other LANs using G4 Communications Basic Routing Service.

G4 Communications Basic Routing Service provides the perfect solution for connecting workgroup LANs (fewer than 100 users) with G4 Communications FastReach‚ Services. Our Basic Routing service provides a fast, feature-rich solution with worry-free installation, configuration and support all at a fixed monthly fee.

Benefits of Managed Basic Routing Service:

  • No costly maintenance fees.
  • No equipment upgrade fees.
  • Router is configured for you, to meet your needs.
  • 24 x 7 monitoring to assure continuous operation.
  • Enhanced Routing

    Connecting Large LANs

For large LAN’s with more than 100 users, G4 Communications Enhanced Routing Service provides transparent Internet access using TCP/IP routing from your LAN to our Protected Service Network.

Benefits of Managed Enhanced Routing Service:

  • G4 Communications handles all hardware and software issues.

    BGP Routing

    Controlling Information Exchange

BGP Routing services are Gateway Protocols or the rules that control the information exchange between routers. Internal BGP (IBGP) normally allows routers the free flow of information within or between internal or “trusted” systems. In situations where network integrity is critical, External BGP (EBGP) is used to provide the exchange of pre-specified information between Autonomous Systems (Ass).

BGP provides protocols that enhance your network’s effectiveness:

  • Determine paths for optimal routing within the Internet.
  • Provide optimal routing within administrative domains or autonomous systems.
  • Maintain routing tables, transmit routing updates, and make routing decisions based on routing metrics.
  • Allow system-level policy decisions.
  • Increase the number of available network addresses.

    Managed Firewall Service

    Protecting Data on Networks

Because the Internet has made information-sharing transparent, protecting networks and the information that resides within them has become critically important. Companies like yours need to protect their private LANs from hackers and unauthorized users in order to secure sensitive information- no matter where it may be located.

G4 Communication’s managed firewall services are built with industry leading hardware and software solutions that are configured to automatically detect and thwart attacks and hacker intrusions that could compromise your vital data.

Our managed firewall services also provide the power and scalability usually reserved for very large organizations, but we make them available to all of our customers.

Since firewalls require constant updating and continuous review, G4 Communications managed firewall services include 24x7 monitoring and maintenance by both applications and specialized technicians.

Highlights of G4 Communications Managed firewall service:

  • Protection of data traffic using “stateful” packet inspection algorithms the most effective method to block unwanted intruders.
  • Protection from Denial of Service (DoS) attacks intended to interrupt Internet services.
  • Protection of public access devices such as web servers and FTP servers by placing them in a public “Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)” with Denial of Service (DoS).
  • Content filtering to enforce Internet access pollicies such as prohibiting objectionable content and graphics.

    NAT (Network Address Translation)

    Addresses within Addresses for Security

An excellent and secure way to protect data and still allow access to the Internet is Network Address Translation (NAT), which uses unregistered IP addresses in Local Area Networks (LANs) to prevent direct contact from outside. Like extensions within a phone system, NAT protects computers that are primarily used within the LAN from being found or contacted by outsiders. NAT also operates without affecting any application that initiates communication with the Internet.

The use of NAT does not affect any applications that initiate communication to the Internet such as: Web browsing, downloading active content, movies, video clips, or sending or receiving e-mail.

The benefits of NAT security include:

  • Simple, easy security for frequent LAN users.
  • Enhance security for LANs.
